On boarding Black Owned SME Suppliers
After receiving a call from our client regarding protest action around their mine site, Aurik was on a plane. The local community were protesting the lack of opportunity provided by the mine.
An average spend of R1m per month was directed towards black-owned, community businesses. The mine complained that they struggled to find black-owned, local SME’s and many that they did, weren’t able to meet the mine SLA. Within 8 weeks, Aurik sourced 412 local black-owned businesses. 302 of the entrepreneurs had tertiary qualifications. 30 SME’s were selected and placed on a custom-designed business growth and support programme. As of 2016, these 30 SME’s, 3 years later, service an annual spend of R240m providing jobs and economy into the local community.
